What is the difference?

Local SEO focuses on helping people find and evaluate a business serving their area. AEO is a common term for making information useful to answer-based search systems. The work overlaps: accurate business details, accessible pages and clear explanations help customers understand what you offer.

First: get the basic facts right

Confirm your real business name, telephone number, website and actual service area. Explain whether you visit customers, have a staffed public location or work only online. Do not create a profile or city address to suggest an office that does not exist. Eligible businesses that visit customers can use a service-area Google Business Profile with the address hidden.

Second: answer the buying questions

A customer comparing roofing contractors may want to know whether you repair leaks, what happens during an estimate and which locations you cover. A plumbing customer may need to distinguish planned work from urgent assistance. Put those answers on the relevant service page, with enough detail to make the next step clear. Avoid copying generic answers that do not describe your real service.

Third: check whether the page can be found

A useful page needs sensible internal links, readable content, a correct canonical URL and no accidental indexing block. A sitemap can help search engines discover URLs. Submitting it does not guarantee indexing or ranking. Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools can show discovery and indexing information, but their reports may update later than the live website.

Is special AI markup required?

Google’s guidance for AI features says the established search foundations remain relevant and there are no additional special technical requirements. Structured data should accurately describe visible content; it is not a guarantee of an AI citation. Different platforms have different systems, so do not treat a result on one as a promise about another.

What should you measure?

Look at qualified enquiries, calls or bookings alongside available search impressions and visits. Define a successful audit submission separately from a booking-link click. Ask where a number comes from and what it actually measures. Changes in rankings or appearances may have several causes; a before-and-after screenshot alone does not establish why something changed.

Choose a useful first step

If your contact information is wrong, fix that first. If visitors cannot understand your work, improve the website and service pages. If the information is clear but leads stall, review follow-up. Our AI search visibility service builds on these foundations without ranking or recommendation guarantees.
